The improvements in the understanding of the physiology of food spoilage fungi have been relatively small, reflecting perhaps the lack of emphasis on physiology in modern mic- biological science. Much remains to be understood about the specificity of particular fungi for particular substrates, of the influence of water activity on the growth of many of the species treated, and even on such basic parameters as cardinal temperatures for growth and the influence of pH and preservatives. Since 1997, a great deal has been learnt about the specificity of mycotoxin production and in which commodities and products-specific mycotoxins are likely to occur. Changes in our understanding of the ecology of the included species are also in most cases evolutionary. A great number of papers have been published on the ecology of foodborne fungi in the past few years, but with few exceptions the basic ecology of the included species remains.

This completely revised and updated third edition is an invaluable reference for food microbiologists investigating fungal spoilage and sources of mycotoxin contamination in foods.

The introductory chapters of the book deal with the ecology of food spoilage and give an overview of how food processing, packaging and storage affect fungal growth. Subsequent chapters cover the fundamentals of classifying and naming fungi and current methods for isolation and enumeration, including general and special purpose media, incubation conditions, etc. The major part of the book provides keys, descriptions and illustrations of all yeasts and moulds commonly encountered in foods. Characteristics of the species, including their ecology and potential for mycotoxin production, are also included.

The broad and practical nature of the coverage will appeal to microbiologists, mycologists and biotechnologists in the food industry, academic, research and public health institutions.

Dr John Pitt and Dr Ailsa Hocking are both Honorary Research Fellows at CSIRO Food Science Australia, North Ryde, NSW, Australia.

In Cannes SOME of the critics didn't like the movie but the movie was graced with lots of cheers by its viewers. Once again, the masses aren't right. The story is innacurate - yes! could be, but this movie isn't focused on history!

In Marie Antoinette, we entered in a camp aesthetic world - forget about the history. There is also a pair of Converse All-star among the Antoinette's shoes...

Good movie (although not terrific) and Sofia Coppola is already on another planet - she gets my attention for the fabulous camp aesthetique!
The soundtrack is wonderful also!

I bought this book - I normally buy movie books of the films I like.
I was pleased with this book! 1 and 2 star reviews for this book are not accurate! 3 stars and half is fairer. It is beautifully presented, with 2 LOVELY varnished pictures on the baby-blue hardcover. It has beautiful photos by Director Sofia, Leigh Johnson and Lance Acord - some are better than others, obviously. But I prefer a less quality photo than not have none.
There are also nice pictures from Asia Argento (Madame Du Barry), Marie Antoinette in the orchard near the Petit Trianon is marvellous. There are also sketches for the food castles and deserts. Even the very strong dustjacket is beautiful - all the lettering is engraved. The outside as seen on the picures is in powder-blue (fabric pattern) and the inside dustjacket in hot-pink.

IF YOU LIKE THE MOVIE - you'll like this book. Believe me!

Unreal Disappointment of a Book, Exquisite Movie

This is the first real flame of a review I have ever written. I must preface this with this statement: I am in awe of S. Coppola's (S.C.) film work-and this movie is no exception...Marie Antoinette (M.A.) and her interpretation of the story is truly exquisite. The costuming is what I am really interested in, with re: to this book, however. I wanted this book for so long, and finally purchased it-ordered it and received it today. I also love Rizzoli (R.)-the publisher. Who, now, I am flabbergasted at-that they even published this. I should have listened to the sage advise of the other costume-philes before me. First, the sheer scale of the book is atrociously small (especially for Rizzoli-they usually publish great big books with great big, clear, detailed photos in them), esp. for $45-which is what I paid for it where I got it); then, the photos are blurry, grainy, and lack practically any detail (in most of them-there a very few that have some detail)-you will have much better luck just watching the movie and pausing it to get more detail-it is almost like the book should have been called, "Scrapbook of the Making of M.A."; and then most of the close ups are of foods-which, don't get me wrong, are pretty, but are not even the prettiest of the foods in the movie, and even they are grainy and a little out of focus.

I am so disappointed. I can't believe that this is so incredibly expensive, so small, so blurry, and so, well, awful. And from someone (S.C. and Rizzoli) whose quality work I admire so much! There was so much beauty in the movie that could have been showcased in the book. I feel really cheated. I am actually going to take the book back, which is something I truly never, ever do. It is almost like they gave away all the gorgeous things they made for the movie, or couldn't get permission from the costumers to use the stuff they made, or something else got in the way of actually showing anything-I am not sure what happened, but it left me frustrated and sad (it is nothing like the product description says).

So, buy the amazing movie, which is a feast for the senses to be sure-filled especially with absolutely gorgeous handwork/sewing/dying/ribbonwork/wigwork/etc. to die for; as well as great music, a good story (which I think is probably more like what it would have been like (since they really were a bunch of teenagers with a ton of money-have you been to Versailles?), and save your pennies for some other coffee-table book or a period costuming book from MOMA.

Hey! This is now my favorite atlas! Who knew?

Yes, I love my GPS. I love apps that order my stops for me. I love being told to "turn here" and "Accident up ahead, would you like to take an alternate route?" I'm all about the technology, but I felt both my husband and I needed an atlas in the cars in case GPS or our favorite app isn't working and we need to get out of Dodge...and to just get to know the surrounding area a bit better. I had never heard of Michelin atlases but after doing my usual research (I love researching ANYTHING lol), I bought this atlas and a Rand McNally 2017 Large Scale Road Atlas (Rand Mcnally Large Scale Road Atlas USA) so I'm going to compare the two in this review. I'm surprised because I grew up around Rand McNally atlases and street maps, but I actually prefer this one to the Rand McNally! I don't know how it can say updated for 2017 when it's 2016. Makes me wonder when things are REALLY updated? I figured out that even if you buy a super large scale atlas, you will STILL be hard pressed to really be able to see all those streets without some magnification if you are getting to the age where some magnification is helpful. So in that regard, the bigger book won't help with the vision issue much. Also, the smaller size is much better for fitting into the car. The other one is huge! Also, we live in the "crack" (binding point) of the large scale atlas. I literally can't see the major roads around our area because the binding runs along every major highway! I don't know how you would know if you live in a crack except to contact the publisher or buy it yourself. Both atlases have major parks listed but somehow I like the layout of this one better. I also had shipping damage to the larger one which Amazon took care of but it made me reflect upon the fact that the large size would be really hard to care for in a vehicle..unless you don't have kids and everything in your car stays where it should stay. Sometimes I wonder what that would be like....(smile) but then, I wouldn't trade my messy car for anything because I love the ones making the mess. So in short...this atlas rocks. It will get you where you want or need to go (at least on paper), it will help teach your kids how to navigate if that's a life skill you are working on with them...it has a great binding, has a good layout, great park information and fits under the seat in my car without getting torn or badly bent. The cover isn't that heavy duty but it's good enough. I've pulled mine out of the car to find jelly and ketchup on it (from kids eating in the car) and it wiped off ok. But if you want to further protect it, just get you some clear contact paper and cover it to fit. Voila! That works for coffee-spills too...not that I know anything about trying to read an atlas with hot coffee in my hand in a messy vehicle. ;0

After spending some more time looking at this atlas, I can see why someone who is used to Rand-McNally or other types of atlases may have a bit of a learning curve. Thankfully, this atlas has a very helpful "How to use this atlas" section which will tell you everything you need to know. It's all on one page and it's not complicated to use this atlas or to figure out how to use it.

On the inside of the front cover of this atlas, there is an outline map of the U.S. a portion of Mexico, and a portion of Canada. There is also an enlarged portion of the northeast corridor in a "bonus" section. This is given because this atlas is organized according to a grid pattern beginning in the northwest portion of each country. On these grids are page numbers. You can just use those page numbers to jump to the section you want or you can use the 1 page listing of their featured state and city maps which includes some, not all major cities in the U.S. and Canada and very few in Mexico. A third option is to use the comprehensive county/parish/city/town (for U.S.) or the City/town index for Canada and Mexico index in the back of the atlas. These are listed separately. Either way, it's a breeze to find what you are looking for by one of these three areas.

For each of these main grids, there is a 2-page spread that has interstates and state highways as well as counties, cities and towns. You can also see larger bodies of water, driving distance (in miles) to nearby major cities, a mini map showing you exactly where in the U.S., Canada or Mexico you are looking. This 2-page spread is organized also by grids and those grids will be referenced in the comprehensive index. On the outer border of these 2-page spreads, you have "tabs" which point the way to the neighboring map. For example, if a tab is labeled "go to 47" and you turn to pg 47, you will see that this page continues where the last one you were looking at left off. Also on the 2-page spreads are colored outline grids with page numbers referenced. These are areas that are featured in greater detail in the index section. When you turn to one of those referenced pages, you see inset maps (many of which have their own indexes) of points of interest, cities and towns. There are also downtown inset maps of a few of the larger metro areas.

National Park Information including GPS coordinate information and index for U.S. and Canada
City to City Distance Charts (in miles)
Distance and Driving Times across North America
Tourism and Border Crossing Info

Great resource

This is a great map book with far more detail than a regular Road Atlas provides. I have an older version of this book that has larger pages and was a little nicer to work with. This book also has a section in the back that gives greater detail for the cities and important areas. The spiral binding makes it very easy to use and nice to travel with.

Pleased with purchase

This atlas was everything I expected. I bought this for my wife. She's old school (like myself at times) and wanted a manageable source to review maps of the states. It is a quality publication that will easily fit into a car pocket seat. Sure, one can go to Google Maps, to look at this, but this is a much simpler and functional way to get a big picture overview of travel. Also it is not chock full of ads.

This book isn't for everyone. However, if you're seriously interested in producing for COMMERCIAL theater, this is THE book. It's full of useful, pertinent info, and is a guide to and insight into some of the top players in the exhilirating world of commercial theater. As a playwright, I learned a lot -- including a definite sense that I am NOT the one to produce my own musical.

This book is an exciting read for anyone who has ideas for plays and musicals, but is unsure how to get them produced. It gives practical informations in a way that makes it "user friendly". I highly recommend this book for anyone with unheard ideas for the stage!!!

Exploring new media technology

This book illuminates the profound ways by which cybertechnology is integrated in political campaigns and illustrates Barack Obama's strategies in particular. The book is a highly valuable resource for communication studies scholars and students (rhetoric, mass media studies) as well as the field of political science.
