Very informative...the book is full of good advice and excellent information...but...I think the truth of the matter is...I just need my mom to keep cooking for me...I'm just way too lazy to read about it...then cook it...then eat it...argh!!!

Much More Than a Book On Cayce Foods for Health

This book is more about searching to find the foods that support your ultimate well-being that merely a book on foods. It also describes how to best assimilate those foods into your body by eating when you are emotionally balanced, dealing with stress more easily through prayer and meditation, and the importance of dealing with the whole person in using foods for health.

I like books by Dr. McGarey. He writes in an easily understandable manner but at the same time provides tons of information, for example, in The Edgar Cayce Remedies.

Another book on illnesses and the foods that Cayce recommended in the healing regimens for those illnesses is An Edgar Cayce Encyclopedia of Foods for Health and Healing. To learn how to prepare many of the foods and food combinations suggested by Cayce I like The New Life Cookbook: Based on the Health and Nutritional Philosophy of the Edgar Cayce Readings. And, for a listing of the various foods and quotes from Cayce's readings on those foods, I love Treasures from earth's storehouse: Based on The Edgar Cayce readings.

About the Author
Author Robert Caringola holds a B.A. in History from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock, and was accepted into Phi Alpha Theta, a history honors fraternity. His ministerial office is that of a teacher in the five-fold ministry (Eph. 4:11). He has prepared for a decade to repair the breach in the interpretation of Daniel s seventy weeks. If God wills, this is the first of many systematic teachings to emerge on the subject of eschatology.

Excellent for Understanding the Book of Daniel

Caringola did years of research before writing this book. In it, he takes you through the book of Daniel explaining the prophecies and their fulfillment in a very practical way.
Caringola writes from the historicist point of view (the view that the protestant reformers held). While we have moved away from the historicist view to a past-fulfillment (preterist) point of view of prophecy, his book does an excellent job with historical events that show how Daniel's prophecies were fulfilled historically through the rise of Babylon, Greece, Medo-Persia, and Rome. Ultimately, these prophecies set up the timing for the ministry of Christ (Daniel's 70 weeks - Daniel Ch. 9)
It is a excellent book for anyone wanting to move beyond their basic rapturist dispensational view of end times prophecy.
Note: it is not exactly a walk in the park to read and understand. You will have to do some thinking while you read.

Bold, Clear Teaching from a man who's done his homework!

Thank you, Robert Caringola, for this valuable service to Christ's church.

This is a great companion volume to his masterful work "The Present Reign of Jesus Christ" (which, sadly, I don't find available on this site.) That other work shattered the last vestiges of my then-chic evangelical partial Preterism.

This book, though short, is a much-needed history lesson that shows a) that Daniel's 70 Weeks did in fact precisely predict the Messiah's presentation to the Jews, to the year, and b) that Biblical eschatology has been hijacked in the West for the last two centuries by a theory that came with the specific intention of confusing the matter and drawing Protestants back to Rome. If you presently doubt either of those assertions, he's got the names, dates, book titles, and places right here.

I don't normally get chills reading theology, but I did this time, as the author spells out step-by-step how Daniel's prophecies were fulfilled even in minute fashion in the advance of history.

But sadly, I confess this view has a long, and uphill battle ahead of it, and one example is the three-star review that appears before mine, where the man confessed that he was rejecting the teaching of this book for no reason other than it conflicts with what he's been taught all his life. What happened to searching the Scriptures to see whether these things be true? Dispensationalism was merely wrong when it began: but it's now achieved the status of hallowed (encrusted) tradition in the churches. That makes it worse. However, I share the author's conviction here that Christ's truth and kingdom will defeat His rivals. There is yet time for Christ to be obeyed.

A More Accurate Interpretation

If one desires to attempt to understand prophecy, the prerequisite is to make the interpretation align with and fit into Scripture rather than distorting Scripture to fit one's preconceived theory. Robert Caringola has done this better than anyone else I have ever read.

In a wide-ranging argument moving from Sumerian demons to Lucian Freud, from Syriac prayer books to John Carpenter’s film The Thing, this book explores the ways the body has been represented through time. A response to the vertiginous increase in writings on bodily representations, it attempts to form a single coherent account of the possible forms of representation of the body.
The conceptual binding is provided by the idea of pain, understood as the set of images that elicit visceral, nonverbal, or uncognized responses, and the realm of metamorphosis, meaning the images that provoke intellection and, in particular, thoughts of change and concepts of alterity or representation. The author shows how pain and metamorphosis have animated and ordered the vast range of images that have been produced in Western representation, and he argues that pain and metamorphosis continue to be generative concepts even amid the welter of today’s new forms.
This work brings together concerns, images, and concepts from a wide range of perspectives: art history and criticism, the history and philosophy of medicine, the history of race, phenomenological and post-phenomenological thought, studies of feminism and pornography, and the new interest in visual studies. Yet it is less a philosopher’s look at history or a historian’s foray into philosophy than a practical and critical look at the current constellation of art practices. I think you either love James Elkins or he leaves you cold. I've enjoyed everything I've read by him. Though this book is not for everyone, it's a strange & wonderful look at the physicality of meaning, the body as the translator.

Standing no more than 5’ 7” tall, Sam Langford was one of the 20th century’s greatest fighters. In 1951, the great featherweight champion Abe Attell was asked if Sugar Ray Robinson was the best of all time, either as a welterweight or middleweight. He named Stanley Ketchel as the greatest welterweight he’d ever seen and said that, as for the middleweights, he’d take Sam Langford, “the greatest of them all at that poundage.”
Remarkably, the man Attell felt was the greatest middleweight fighter in history fought and defeated many of the leading heavyweight contenders of his day. Over time, he matured physically and grew into a light heavyweight, then began fighting heavyweights on a regular basis, but he was almost always the much smaller of the two combatants.
Nat Fleischer, founding editor of The Ring magazine, called Sam one of the hardest punchers of all time, and ranked the little man seventh among his personal all-time favorites “Sam was endowed with everything. He possessed strength, agility, cleverness, hitting power, a good thinking cap, and an abundance of courage He feared no one. But he had the fatal gift of being too good, and that’s why he often had to give away weight in early days and make agreements with opponents. Many of those who agreed to fight him, especially of his own race, wanted an assurance that he would be merciful or insisted on a bout of not more than six rounds.”
Other leading sportswriters of that era had even higher opinions of Sam. Hype Igoe, well known boxing writer for the New York Journal, proclaimed Sam the greatest fighter, pound-for-pound, who ever lived. Joe Williams, respected sports columnist of the New York World Telegram wrote that Langford was probably the best the ring ever saw, and the great Grantland Rice described Sam as “about the best fighting man I’ve ever watched.”
At the time of Sam’s induction into the Boxing Hall of Fame (October 1955) he was the only non-champion accorded the honor. Many ring experts considered Sam the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the history of boxing Under different circumstances he might have been a champion at five different weights: lightweight; welterweight, middleweight; light heavyweight; and heavyweight.
Blind and penniless at the end of his life, Sam lived quietly in a private nursing home But when one visitor expressed sympathy for his circumstances, Sam replied, “Don’t nobody need to feel sorry for old Sam. I had plenty of good times. I been all over the world. I fought maybe 600 fights, and every one was a pleasure!”

Clay Moyle is a member of the International Boxing Research Organization (IBRO), created in 1982 for the purpose of establishing an accurate history of boxing and compiling complete and accurate boxing records. He is also a passionate collector of boxing books with over 3,000 titles in his personal collection, many dating back to the 1800's. He lives in Edgewood, Washington.

As Good As It Gets

Clay Moyle's book is a superb example as to how to write a boxer's biography. Providing many hitherto unpublished - if not unknown - facts about the life and career of the "Boston Tar Baby" (b. 1883, d. 1956, fought professionally from 1902 to 1926, in prime around 1908 to 1912, started losing sight in 1917) and many of his opponents (for example, Moyle explains what became of the long-forgotten boxer Danny Duane, who easily defeated both the young Langford and the highly-skilled Jack Blackburn, yet gave up what would seem to have been a very promising boxing career), the author sprinkles his book with many interesting, oftentimes funny, anecdotes about his subject. Of course, the best aspects of this book for boxing fans are Moyle's descriptions of Langford's boxing style and abilities (including accounts of when and against whom he started to utilize certain tactics and techniques); his accounts of Langford's major bouts - sometimes seemingly providing a 'blow-by-blow' description of the action; the many cited opinions of Langford's opponents and other boxing experts as to his strengths and weaknesses, as well as where he stands among boxing's greats; and, of course, the many fine photographs of the great man and his peers, many of which have never been published before.

My only real complaint about this book is that the author did not provide Langford's official weigh-in weight (and that of his opponent) for more of his bouts (for most fighters, this wouldn't be that big a deal, but, with someone like Langford, who gradually grew from a lightweight into a heavyweight and was competitive in each of the weight divisions between those two classes, it's quite important to know, especially since he often took on fighters who substantially outweighed him). But that's a small quibble given how great this bio is (I hope that the upcoming biographies of Joe Gans and Harry Greb are even 80% as good as this one).

Moyle provides Langford's ring record at the end of the book, as well as an index (which is always handy). Forgotten Greatness

Sam Langford is typically not on the list of modern boxing historians top ten, or even top twenty-five, but this is their oversight. Sam Langford was a pioneering trailblazer in a young sport.

Clay Moyle is one of many authors revisiting great warriors of the early days of boxing. Recent biographies have been written about Bob Fitzsimmons, Joe Gans and John L Sullivan to name a few.

This tome reads quickly, is highly entertaining and highly informative.

Sam Langford is portrayed as not only a fierce competitor, but also an intelligent, quick-witted and generous man. He had a huge following, but because of the times he fought in, was avoided by the serious contenders and Champions of his day. Although smaller of stature, and lighter than most of the men he fought, he had so much talent that he found ways to break these men down.

Although he lived his advancing years blind and penniless, he refused to give in to bitterness. While he could have fought fighters like Jack Dempsey, Jess Willard and Luis Firpo in big money fights, he had to content himself with fighting the great colored fighters like Sam McVey and Joe Jeannette again and again.

Interestingly, he often carried these fighters through many rounds, because he knew he would have to fight them again, and he wanted to keep interest up for a potential larger gate.

Reading about Langford's life and times opens up new vistas about what it meant to be a black athlete in the early 20th century, and how important a strong mental outlook is in life.

Great Book about a Great Fighter

Not only was a biography on Sam Langford A/K/A " The Boston Tar Baby " long overdue but I seriously doubt that anyone could have written a better Biography on Sam than Clay Moyle has. Clay is a reknowned Boxing Writer & Boxing Historian and this Book reflects his passion for Boxing & knowledge of the Sport. This Book is a must-read for any Boxing Fan & is a treasure trove chock full of rare never before published photos + carefully researched facts & anecdotes. Anyone who likes Boxing should read this Book
