Very in, very now, very posh!

When I think about the Najdorf, I tend to:

1. Giggle like a little high school boy and stare up at the ceiling in excitement as if I had just received a girl's phone number.

2. Think of Daniel King saying dynamic potential or dynamic compensation.

3. Think about what Rene Olthof said of the Najdorf in "The Forum" from last years New In Chess Yearbook, issue 99.

"One of the characteristics of the Najdorf variation, especially after the sharp 6. Bg5, is it's incessant resilience. How many times have we seen a line being written off only to watch it emerge from the theoretical battle all the stronger? Basically all main lines for Black have, at some point, been declared dead, but all are still alive and kicking. Which doesn't mean Black can rest on his laurels."

So speaking of the above quote, I should start talking about this book rather than the Najdorf.

One thing that really surprised me was the fact that they provide many interesting new developments as food for thought. In 6. Be3 e5 7. Nf3 they still recommend 7. ... Be7 but they also show you developments being made in 7. ... Qc7 as well! They give their readers enough material in that line to update their old 7. ... Qc7 lines without having to spend time trying to sift through a database. And in another line, 6. Be2 e5 7. Nb3 Be7 8. 0-0 0-0 9. Kh1, the authors of course still recommend that Black play 9. ... Nc6 calling 9. ... b6 (Gelfand's old favorite) as being "passive" but show their readers new developments in that line played by Maxime Vachier-Lagrave citing it as equal. Like their previous two editions, a lot of food for thought.

Against 6. Bg5 in the first edition, the authors recommended the Poison Pawn Variation proper. It held up for a while, until Shirov introduced a dreadful innovation against an e5 line in the PP. It was so lingeringly powerful that the authors recommended an early liquidation with ...Nc6, ... Nxd4 followed up with a ... Qxd4 for Black as a way to deviate from the Poison Pawn yet stay in the main lines in their second edition. Time has passed and Black has found ways to deal with Shirov's innovation. Georgiev and Kolev now recommend that their loyal and new readers now play the Poison Pawn Variation again! If you're new to the Poison Pawn, as food for thought, they recommend that Black play a Delayed Poison Pawn with 7. ... h6 with 8. Bh4 Qb6 to avoid some side lines in the Poison Pawn Proper. However, if you already know Poison Pawn Proper theory, they suggest that you should stick to the Poison Pawn proper. As far as the analysis in this book is holding up, I am not so sure. I do not play either side of the Poison Pawn Variation preferring to stick to the solid variation with 6. ... e6 and 7. ... Be7. Daniel King once said that against 6. Bg5 Black simply can't just learn how to play against 6. Bg5 but must also memorize moves against it. If this is your first book on the Najdorf I think it's safe to say that you're in good hands against 6. Bg5. For Najdorf players out there, whatever your first book on the Najdorf may be, stick to what you know best against 6. Bg5. Unless you're an IM and above, having multiple alternatives against 6. Bg5 always seemed to me as excessive. Life is too short to let 6. Bg5 get one down.

Against the English Attack they recommend Black play Topalov's ... h5 line after White plays Be3, f3. The idea is to stop g4 and hopefully play ... h4 and make g4 (or g3) backward, thus it keeps your Knight on f6 and keeps a grip on the g4 square thanks to your f6 Knight and e6 Bishop. Unlike their previous two published works on the Najdorf, play in the main line English Attack has a scarcity of King hunts and the play has slowed down drastically. So should one get this book just to update their previous book? No. But one should get this book because this line is a fantastic addition to any Najdorf player's arsenal, they're sick of dealing with 32 moves deep and wide from the previous books and they want to explore a relatively undeveloped line. If fans of their previous Najdorf books want updates to those works, I would believe not very much has changed in that line to challenge that Black has decent play and that at best White is only a little better. For those curious of previous "The Sharpest Sicilian's" English Attack main line you're probably better off using a database that consists of OTB, postal and e-mail games and Pavlovic's "Cutting Edge 2."

As far as lines being shared with Milos Pavlovic's "Cutting Edge 2: 6. Be3," I would say the authors of this book and Pavlovic share many a common understanding. Both books cite the same games as being good for Black and the authors of "The Sharpest Sicilian" also agree with many of the repairs and novelties that Pavlovic made in his work. I would get this book over Pavlovic's over one simple reason: the instruction is invaluable. Georgiev and Kolev teach the players of the Black side how to play the ... h5 English Attack positions in such a way that Danny King would be proud as he balls into tears. In a way, they teach their readers the general dream positions Black wants to aim for in that variation and show their readers how to get there the same way Daniel King did in his fantastic, "Winning with the Najdorf." I wish I could describe their instruction for this chapter a lot better, but I just can't. It's a very good chapter, and for me, that alone is worth the price of the book.

So if you want a line against the English Attack with Be3 and f3 that requires understanding and a scope for creativity (this line is still under development!), this book is definitely up your alley. It may not be what the title suggests but it is most certainly critical.

As for more updates from the previous books, not very much has changed for dealing with 6. Be2, just additional food for thought. Against 6. g3 they give 6. ... e5 as the main line (finally!) and 6. ... e6 as a back up. Against 6. f4 they give 6. ... e5 and 6. ... Qc7. as a back up. Against 6. h3 they still give their readers 6. ... e6 and proceed with the same warning frm the previous editions for their readers that an early ... d5 might not be what hopeful Black player has bargained for. Against 6. a4 they have retracted 6. ... Nc6 in favor of 6. ... e5.

And the Anti-Sicilian repertoire... Well... not much has changed besides some updates here and there. But they did do one thing: they have provided a food for thought type repertoire against the 2. Nc3 move-order! They recommend 3. ... a6!? They also provide a road map for the 3. Nc3 move-order.

Those out there who want to start out playing the Najdorf, I would suggest that unless you're already interested in the PP lines and the ... h5 English Attack lines, buy a different Najdorf book. Personally, I find Rizzitano's "Play the Najdorf" one of the best introductions for the to be Najdorf player to pick his poison against 6. Bg5 and company. I will only recommend this book if you want the best lines possible ("best" is pushing it, I know, but these guys are great theoreticians as far as Najdorf repertoires go) and/or you already like the flavor of the lines that they recommend. There are so many new things to learn in the Najdorf that you will never have any shortages to pick from if a line that you play is under fire or if a repertoire book recommendation doesn't cater to your taste (who uses the whole repertoire from a repertoire book anyway?).

Anyways, good luck on your parasitic Najdorf-ing adventures. Soon, like me, you yourself will excitedly stare up at the ceiling, giggling like a high school boy (or girl) as though a girl (or boy) gave you their phone number in between classes whenever a neighboring simian biped mentions, the "Najdorf," as the very numbers of pages that you have collected and contributed in your archive builds up over time materially and conceptually. Chess just loves to get inside your noggin and the Najdorf is no exception!

Perhaps the only book most people will ever need.

The Najdorf is a very difficult defense, but once you read this book you will know exactly what to play against every move white can throw us. This book gives us an excellent repertoire and you will not need to learn that much theory. With this repertoire white will have a difficult time trying to attack you. After this book you just have to go to the database to keep up with the latest theory.

Excellent!

This review is for "The Sharpest Sicilian 2012" which is an updated version of the original edition.

This book will be useful for any level of player who wants to play the Najdorf as Black. I like that they preface each variation with a "Quick Repertoire" section - for many readers this is all they need... for now. Later you can drill into the details and nuances in the "Step by Step" sections that make up the bulk of the book. Many complete games are shown. Probably the only book you will ever need on the Najdorf as Black.

Since this is a repertoire entirely from the Black perspective some major variations are left out where the prevailing consensus is that that line is not favorable for Black. For instance I like the Polugayevsky Variation, but it is completely missing in action here. The authors believe (and rightly so) that the Poison Pawn line is currently the best line for Black. Even so, I would have been very interested in seeing what Polugayevsky lines these authors might suggest if one should want to experiment or throw a curve ball to your opponent. But of course they have to draw a line somewhere in terms of content. And this book does an excellent job in keeping the focus on what is primarily essential.

I found the depth of discussion to be just about right - not too much and not too little. This is no data dump - the authors are very focused, careful and disciplined about the games included here - every game has a rhyme and a reason - a lesson to be learned - a point to be made. The authors get the job done in a concise and very readable manner. The main ideas and goals for both sides are always clearly presented. Some of the other reviewers outline in exacting detail what the book offers - read those for more depth on the actual variances the authors have chosen for Black.

A great book if you play the Najdorf as Black. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Dr. Gerald Keller is Emeritus Professor of Business at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he taught statistics, management science, and operations management from 1974 to 2011. He also taught at the University of Toronto, the University of Miami, McMaster University, the University of Windsor, and the Beijing Institute of Science and Technology. In addition to consulting with banks on credit scoring and credit card fraud, Dr. Keller has conducted market surveys for the Canadian government on energy conservation. You know its bad when it confuses you on material you already know...

Honestly, this is the worst textbook I have used in my entire academic career. The examples in each chapter are extremely limited and do not cover the all of the material you will be questioned on. This problem is magnified to infuriating levels when there are no step-by-step examples or explained answers in the back of the book, so if you happened to be human and make a mistake, good luck finding out why. While the material is lacking, the layout is even worse. This is supposed to be a college textbook, not an imitation of People magazine. Each page is cluttered with blown up pictures and needless graphics, while important formulas are written in plain text and tucked away in the page corners. If the book doesn't give you a laugh, then I guarantee you the online portion will. I decided to register my book to see if there would be any resources to help me with the homework problems. I register, look up the assigned chapter, and what do I find? Digital note cards. No formulas. No practice problems. No explained answers. Just four, lousy note cards with mindless vocabulary that you will already know after reading through the chapter several times to find something useful. The sad part is I have already aced a college level statistics class, but need to retake it since the credits didn't transfer out of state. The textbook we used in that class was printed in the 90's, and stands leagues above this pathetic excuse for instructional material. If I had not taken stats prior, I guarantee you I would not have the slightest clue as to what is being discussed in this textbook; it is THAT poorly written. I am writing this review because of how infuriating it is to review for a test on material I ALREADY KNOW, so unless you have already taken statistics and feel ready to take the final, demand your professor to change textbooks. I feel sorry for the poor souls that actually have to use this bottom-shelf magazine for their first statistics class. God help you.

You'd be better off with no textbook...seriously.

This is a sad excuse for a college textbook. The format is terrible, with giant pictures shoehorned in every few pages, seemingly intended to make up for the book's lack of useful content. The explanations of key formulas and problem solving procedures are, in many cases, glossed over and poorly explained. However, the worst part is, without a doubt, the way much of the book is worded and written, particularly when it comes to the instructions for many of the practice problems.

Do yourself a favor, and find another book. Unless this book is ABSOLUTELY mandated by your professor, you would be better off simply not buying a textbook, as it may be more of a hindrance than a learning aid.

Alan Covey supplements an archaeological approach with the tools of a historian, forming an interdisciplinary study of how the Incas became sufficiently powerful to embark on an unprecedented campaign of territorial expansion and how such developments related to earlier patterns of Andean statecraft. In roughly a hundred years of military campaigns, Inca dominion spread like wildfire across the Andes, a process traditionally thought to have been set in motion by a single charismatic ruler, Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui. Taking nearly a century of archaeological research in the region around the Inca capital as his point of departure, Covey offers an alternative description of Inca society in the centuries leading up to imperial expansion. To do so, Covey proposes a new reading of the Spanish chronicles, one that focuses on processes, rather than singular events, occurring throughout the region surrounding Cusco, the Inca capital. His focus on long-term regional changes, rather than heroic actions of Inca kings, allows the historical and archaeological evidence to be placed on equal interpretive footing. The result is a narrative of Inca political origins linking Inca statecraft to traditions of Andean power structures, long-term ecological changes, and internal social transformations. By reading the Inca histories in a compatible way, Covey shows that it is possible to construct a unified theory of how the Inca heartland was transformed after AD 1000.

"Schopenhauer's Best Work"

I recently had the opportunity to find this gem in the SUNY New Paltz Library. Having read all of Arthur Schopenhauers other works, I have searched endlessly for the last five years to acquire it . Not being a student of the school I was unable to borrow it, thus I had to sit and read all 1200 pages of Vol.1 and 2 in the Library. The pleasure was unspeakable. The book was written in his later years and brings out the real Schopenhauer , The pessimist and realist that we all love. I will put in a request for Amazon to find it for it is a true masterpiece , one that any student of Philosophy must have on his or her bookshelf. One can not say that he knows Schopenhauer unless he has read this book !

Schopenhauer's Claim to Fame

Actually, Parerga was not the book which S. considered to be his masterpiece; The World as Will and Representation was. But it made him famous, especially in England. It's striking too how weak human nature is, even in the case of a man considered to be both a genius and wise. Already rich by inheritance, both supremely intelligent and extremely clever, highly educated, and ultra-cynical about people, the temperamental philosopher craved FAME all his life. (He got it, just before he died.)
Not everything S. writes about in this book (or for that matter any of his other books) is relevant or interesting or correct - you may want to skip his physical theory of colors, for example. But the reader does get a sense of the range and brilliance of his multilingual mind. Many of his thoughts are timeless and true everywhere in the world.
S. caught my attention not because I'm interested in philosophy generally - I most certainly am not - but rather because he was one of Einstein's heroes, and Einstein is one of mine. Einstein loved to quote him, and apparently had his picture hanging in his office.
Interestingly, Hitler also counted S. as his hero. The only book he took to the front as a soldier in the First World War was Schopenhauer's masterpiece, and later as Fuehrer he quoted S. in long, rambling paragraphs in his own table talk. One wouldn't normally expect much in common between the greatest mind who ever lived and this anti-intellectual warmonger. Hitler was an antisemite, so perhaps that's one reason why he was attracted to S. But S. was most liberal and generous in his misanthropic hatreds - one doesn't find him discriminate for or against any particular group. Perhaps Hitler didn't know about the far more damning things S. had to say about Germans?
S. influenced many philosophers, such as Nietzsche and Wittgenstein, but I'm not familiar enough with philosophy to elaborate on this point. He also inspired many other creative minds who were not actually philosophers: Richard Wagner (a fanatical devotee to S. and to whom Hitler was also a fanatical devotee), Leo Tolstoy, Thomas Mann, Sir Winston Churchill (mentioned S. in his autobiography My Early Life), and the quantum physicist Erwin Schroedinger, among numerous others. (Notice that the last three were Nobel prizewinners?) Even the sharp-tongued and critical Wolfgang Pauli (another Nobel physicist) took him seriously. If you want to know why S. was so influential, then this is a good place to start. Parerga is easier to read than his other books, with the exception of his two essays on morality. Try to get Vol. I as well, but if you must choose, get Vol. II - it's longer and has a good index, and a good index is always useful in any book.
Start with Parerga; then after you're familiar with his philosophy, move on to his main work. But don't forget his Essay on the Freedom on the Will - which stands alone as a real masterpiece in all philosophy, even more outstanding than his other works.

It's a 5-star book; but good luck affording it.

This will not be a review of the Parerga. I'm here to review a price.

This (and its sister volume) lists for a whopping $65.00, meaning the two together cost $130 - a price much more appropriate for a college textbook than for something like this. Even Amazon's huge price slash doesn't make it much better. It's still $70-$80 for the two volumes.

Here's what I don't get - this is a classic. It's a 1974 translation (by a man who by now must be either very dead or very old) of a work of philosophy from 1851 (by a man who is quite dead). Why in God's name would this cost so much? How can it possibly be justified?

It seems to me like some quirk. This is the kind of book one expects to be able to buy in a Dover edition for 8 bucks. And there's a reason for that - this is the kind of work that one SHOULD be able to buy in a Dover edition for 8 bucks. This is something everyone should have the right to read, and read at an affordable price. This is not some new book, nor some super obscure book, nor some textbook. It's a standard version of a philosophical classic. A translation that's already 2 generations old. But whatev. I just don't think Schopenhauer would be very happy that the only version of his own favorite among his works currently in print is being priced like this and effectively kept from readers.

Great addition to a series full of suspense and romance!

First let me say that you really MUST read the first book in the series before reading this: The Edge of Courage: Red Team Book 1.
Shattered Valor is not a stand alone book. Trust me, you will not regret it!

The Edge of Courage left us with a cliff hanger of Ty sitting on a ledge, in a pit full of rattlesnakes. Whoa! The wait to read Ty's story was near torture for me. As soon as I received the memo of the book coming out, I dropped the series I was in to pick this series back up again. It's that good. I even read Rocco and Mandy's story to get myself caught up again before I started Shattered Valor. So glad I did that! I will always love their story. You get even more of it woven into Ty's story, even with updates on Zavi!

Ty's story is one that will certainly have you in tears. There are monsters even in the 'real world'. The emotions that Ty revealed were sometimes almost too much to process. I was in tears quite a few times but I also laughed, A LOT! The banter between the guys is spot on! Typical guy stuff! Lots of action and suspense to keep you reading and hoping for the best. There are many surprises to the story that will keep you reading. I don't want to divulge too much information or spoil the story for anyone.

Eden (Eddie) is Ty's love interest. You got an idea of what she was like in the first book when he met her at the bar. She is spunky, honest and not afraid to run headfirst into what seems like a train wreck waiting to happen. Yet, she is sweet, kind and extremely loving. She is the perfect fit for Ty, just what he needs and visa versa. I love love love that Tank is not only a service dog but a bully breed shown in the way they should be; smart, loving and devoted dogs!! Kudos, Elaine!

There are so many dynamics and characters to this series that you do have to pay attention to details but Elaine does a great job of making those details easy to remember. Emotion practically drips off the pages and will leave you wanting more.

Great character development has certainly made me eager to read not only Kit's story but many of the others as well. Much is already developed about Kit and his past in the first two books so I can't wait for his piece of the puzzle to come out in the spring. Hurry, Elaine! lol
Getting to know the supporting characters a little more in each book is fun! Val certainly has me intrigued with that shopping trip and resulting black eye (hilarious!!!). I am hoping, however, that it is Kelan we read about after Kit!

Love the Red Team!

**I got this book from the author for an honest review.**

I am going to admit I played the stalker roll with Elaine. I couldn't wait to read Ty's book especially because of the ending of the first in the book in this series. Elaine left us hanging on a ledge. Literally! So I did what any fan obsessed reader does, hound Goodreads, Twitter, and the author's site for any information on the book I can find. I finally saw that Elaine was planning on releasing the book towards the end of November and couldn't wait to read it. Forward to a few weeks later, I was driving when Elaine emailed me to see if I wanted to review Ty's book. I was doing a very awkward happy dance in the driver's seat that got me more than one wth are you doing look. Lol. When I got home, I immediately stopped reading my current read to start this book. Well, I couldn't have been more pleased!

The first book in the series, The Edge of Courage, was such a great book, I knew the second was going to be just as good or even better. Well Elaine blew me away with the amount of emotional depth that was written into Ty's book. We are left at the end of the first book knowing a little about Ty and his precarious relationship with his father but not a lot. Then something happens to Ty and we are left wondering what his fate will be for the second book o_O Thankfully, everything turns out well and he makes it out a little banged up but intact nonetheless. He manages to meet up with one of the women he met at a bar in town that plays host to a bunch of unfriendlies, and quickly discovers that her friends are hurt and need to be taken to the hospital. After making contact with his team, he helps get them to the hospital where he meets up with his team. Everyone is relieved he made it out of his situation alive and kicking. The mood quickly switches to a more focused determination to find out what happened and who exactly Eden is. Ty's team quickly figures out there is something going on between Ty and Eden (aka Eddie) and they also she might be of some use to them and their issue with a terrorist they are trying to stop. Ty just has to convince her to help, even if at the same time he wants her out of harm's way.

I really liked Eden's spunk and tenacity. She really reminded me of myself in her no nonsense personality and her speak before you think tendencies. She knows that what the intimidating men are asking her to do will put her and her trained search dog, Tank, in immediate danger but after a couple incidences that would have left her hurt if Ty wasn't there, she decides to help. What she didn't bargain for was her intense attraction to the damaged Ty. Of course for a bit she thinks he is just playing her but realizes that is not the case. She also takes it upon herself to try to help Ty through his issues with his house since it seems to have a stranglehold on his life. I couldn't have picked a better match for Ty.

I kind of touched briefly on the emotional aspect of this story. You know how a lot of authors write something into the story that is believable but it's not one of those situations that tear your heart out? Well Elaine definitely has the emotionally ripping your heart out down pat. We find out exactly what went down in Ty's childhood with his father. I am usually not an emotional person (even at 7 months pregnant as I am now) but I was actually crying when I found out what happened. And then there was a part where Ty knew he had to show his team what happened, oh man! I wanted to lunge into the book and hold Ty tight while rocking him and try to take away those awful memories! Words really can't even describe the horror I felt for him. So if you are ready for some action and to shed some tears, I say read it. Of course if you haven't read the first book, you would need to read it first so you know exactly is going on up to this point. It is not a very good standalone book. But you won't regret reading the first one either. It is beyond awesome also!!!

Military style romantic suspense

So, the second book in the Red Team series and I should mention straight off that this novel doesn't stand alone. You will need to read the first book, The Edge of Courage, to understand what is happening here. If you haven't, I can recommend it. It's a great suspense novel and sets up the action and introduces you to a whole host of mouth-watering alpha heroes!

The battle against the Afghan druglord Amir Hadad wages on and only moves on a little further in this one. Despite the suspense premise, these books are very much character driven and each one tells the story of one of the team finding their forever girl. Perfect romantic suspense, really.

This time, it's the turn of Ty who we left stranded and left for dead in a viper pit at the end of the last book. Lucky for us, he's well trained and resilient enough to get himself out of his predicament and stumbles to the nearest house and bumps into Eden who we'd met briefly in the last book. She's in trouble and he helps her and her friends out but she and her sniffer dog Tank have become embroiled in the intrigue that surrounds The Red Team and Ty finds he will do anything to protect her.

Ty is a man best by emotional trauma from his past and the fact that his entire team and it's entourage is camped out in his Father's old house (the site of his horrific abuse) is not helping and it will require all of Eden's fierce loyalty and tenderness to finally allow him to exorcise those demons and move on with her.

Ty is a great hero, he's very alpha, growly and protective (just the way I like `em) and Eden is a steadfast and sweet heroine. They go well together and it was lovely to see Ty's growing attachment to her that he couldn't resist however hard he tried.

I love the whole setup of the Red Team and really enjoy the brotherly camaraderie between them all and there is a whole host of potential book boyfriends here. I am hoping that the next book will tell the story of high-school sweethearts Kit and Ivy and I'm also looking forward to Fiona and Kelan's story. It's good to catch up with Mandy and Rocco after the dramas of their story in the first book and, after reading this one, they're still my favourite couple to date of the series. I'm most looking forward to Val finding a woman - he's got quite the cheeky swagger and tempts me the most out of all of them.

Despite being set very much in the present, I got a strange old-fashioned vibe from reading this. There's something about the townsfolk objecting to their presence with felt olde worlde to me - I could imagine them all descending on Ty's Ranch with blazing torches and pitchforks ready to drive them out of town. Also Ty tells Eden a story about the time he was on military duty near a castle in Germany and that absolutely felt like an old 1930's black and white Hollywood horror movie. I half expected Bela Lugosi or Boris Karloff to overact their way onto the page!

While Ty and Eden's story was sweet, I didn't actually feel the same chemistry or connection I did with Mandy and Rocco but that's not enough to stop me from continuing with the series. I definitely will and I'm very much looking forward to the next book.

ONE STAR edition of 5 star book.

ONE STAR FOR THIS EDITION. I apologize for the following awkwardness. However as many are aware, Amazon sometimes places reviews of a title together no matter what edition was actually reviewed. This review is for the following edition only: Kindle Edition; file size 847 KB; print length 522 pages; publication date December 12, 2012; sold by Amazon Digital Services, Inc.; ASIN B00ANUQEIO. Get a different edition. This one leaves out all illustrations including those needed to support the text. The book itsef is 5 stars for information even though it is not great writing. If you do read the book, which I recommend, you need to be aware that Kunz used terms & gemstone names which are not in common usage today. During my original reading, I was able to consult a Dr. of Geology who was also a gemologist about some of them. Rereading, I made use of various dictionaries & online resources. I am still a little confused about hyacinth. According to some sources it is red zircon. Others state that it is red, orange or yellow zircon. Another says that zircon is not a true hyacinth. My gemologist friend surmised that Kunz could have been referring to a variety of orange to yellow hessonite garnet. I believe that Kunz was referring to a stone of orange, yellow or golden hue, probably zircon. However, I have read that many cut stones in these colors originally thought to be zircon proved to be garnet.

Great book, terrible read

This book has a lot of great information, but the book is hard to read. The optical character recognition was about as poor as I have ever encountered. A run through a Spell Check program would have done wonders to make the book easier to read. The text also referred to or was dependent on the figures that should have been included, but all that was displayed were the figure titles. The same book by the G competitor had the figures, and the book was no charge. Also contributing to the hard read were the footnotes that often ran for several screens making it hard to follow the author's train of thought.

Good. But with a few improvements could have been much better.

Good, but could easily have been much better by implementing the following:

1) adding references to the PM-book (page numbers) in the answer keys.
2) explaining why the wrong answers are not correct.
3) For each chapter selecting a few, maybe fiftheen or so "essential questions" and making a section with these in front of the other questions. For many people there are way too many questions that just drill the same underlying concept which is often quite simple once it has been grasped after the first question in the category. That makes many of the questions just seem like a waste of time.

I was very happy to find this book. It is set up with many questions and answers along with the explanations to the answers at the back of the book. I enjoyed that it had a pre and a post test and then questions by each chapter. I have now passed the CAPM :)
